Creation Theatre Company - Arabian Nights

23rd November 2006 to 13th January 2007.

From the Sunday Times.

three stars
Creation Theatre adds extra exoticism to Dominic Cooke's original adaptation for the Young Vic by playing in a yurt-like tent, a UFO landed in the car park of the company's faithful sponsor, BMW. The audience sit round the stage, nightclub-style, and there is much tumbling and clowning to keep us entertained. Good for seven-year-olds and up, Gari Jones's production suffers from an uncertain music track and a fondness for coarse acting, but the enthusiastic young performers bring out the redemptive power of Shahrazad's storytelling.

ROBERT HEWISON

There's a review in The Stage ("they've refreshed one of the most beautiful stories in literature by rediscovering the simple power of traditional narrative with a twist").
